The Nicholas Colby Fund® has established trustworthy relationships with children's hospitals beginning with those in the San Francisco Bay Area enabling the Fund to proactively develop and deliver personal experiences for patients and their families from around the world. The Fund also provides the children's hospitals with a path for requests to be fulfilled whenever a need may develop at a hospital. And executives of the Fund speak in corporate and community settings on behalf of research toward developing better treatments and finding cures for blood cancers.

Since 2006 the Fund has now directly helped over 2,500 patients and their family members creating uplifting experiences for them to have one more opportunity to smile.  [Events/experiences (including basketball clinics with the Golden State Warriors), nutritional packs in the pediatric intensive care unit, backpacks to newly diagnosed cancer patients, live musical experiences in the hospital, and more.]

We continually create and develop events & experiences toward helping many more children (and their families) to have a treasured moment or two. We believe we are truly making a difference – Helping Children Be Children®. We trust you, too, will realize that it is so inspiring to see smiles on the faces of the children (and their families) who have not had many recent opportunities to smile.

Throughout this website you will experience inspirational stories through words and pictures, testimonials, and loving actions uplifting spirits & delivering smiles, along with pictures that tell a beautiful story of time before and a time today about our little-sunshine's love! Youngest of 4 boys, Nicholas—truly—illuminates with rays of sunshine that warms your heart. His strength, energy, enthusiasm, joy, & endless passion for caring about others and sharing were amazing. And he is our guiding light always & forever.

You will experience an abundance of these loving touches referring to:

  • "Nicholas In Pictures" under About Nicholas.  (The pictures are before and during diagnosis and treatment)

Father of Nicholas Colby Gilbert, is a leadership consultant with AAA of Northern California, Nevada & Utah.

"Guided by Nicholas' amazing love, I am truly grateful for the belief & trust we shared knowing that God's love enabled Nicholas to "just know" that he was loved, creating a continuous flow of joy in Nicholas' heart & soul throughout his life on earth and now in Heaven. Continually loving Nicholas and following his lead of caring, sharing, and giving, coupled with a passion to help create better moments now and tomorrow for children, is why I am devoted to Helping Children Be Children®."

We physically miss Nicholas so, so much and feel that if we could see him now we would not ever want him to leave that perfect place in Heaven...as we trust he is at God's side playing & having fun with Jesus.

"The love I have for my children keeps me forging ahead in the midst of the childhood leukemia path we were chosen to take. Because of the journey we are on it is evident, to me, that my calling is to help others faced with the heart-wrenching impact of the awful news of another horrible diagnosis. There is so much power of a child's smile, and creating more smiles is my life mission."

Me & NikkoKimberly Abbas
Former nanny of Nicholas Colby Gilbert, is an administrative assistant at Gettler-Ryan Inc.

I once read a poem called "Reason, Season, Lifetime" by Aleksandra Lachut. The very first line reads: People come into your life for a reason, a season or a lifetime. My immediate thoughts were of Nikko. While I'll never fully understand why his time here on earth was so short, I do understand that he was here for a "reason." Knowing that Nikko's kind and loving spirit lives on, helping children, warms my heart and brings a smile to my face. Being a part of The Nicholas Colby Fund is special to me and very exciting.
